Big Island Wedding at Kehena Beach

Monday, 15 December 2014 21:13

Most of the Big Island of Hawai'i weddings I have photographed so far on the beach have been on the island's Kona Coast so I was thrilled to get the opportunity to head to the island's East side to photograph a destination wedding at Kehena Beach. W and D had a small ceremony only with their closest friends and then headed to The Bali House for the celebration. The rugged coastline of lower Puna provided an unbelievable backdrop to their wedding.

Big Island Destination Wedding

Geoff and Mei had a sweet destination wedding on the Big Island of Hawaii at the lovely Mauna Lani Bay Hotel on the Kona coast. Congratulations to Geoff and Mei!

Sarah and Rob decided to leave all the fuss of planning a big wedding back home in Ohio, and flew to the beautiful island of Kauai for an intimate destination wedding for two. It was the first time I have ever buttoned up a bride's dress, because I was the only person there. It was such an honor to share in their wedding and obviously, Kauai is pretty much tops as a backdrop. Since there was no rush to get back to the guests, we drove around the island's north shore for photos before the couple continued on their honeymoon/wedding trip. Aloha!

In the chaos and stress of the moments before a wedding, Miyuki turns to me and asks if I need anything to drink, and did I get a chance to go the beach this morning. She and Osamu are some of the most graceful and lovely people I have met in a long time, the kind of people you just want to take it and absorb. At their wedding I realized their family and friends are all reflections of their bright spirits. It was a personal, and special wedding with the couple's good friend officiating the outdoor ceremony up in the hills of Honolulu at the gorgeous Liljestrand House. Osamu is the perfect match for Miyuki, as her parents said at the reception, "because she chose him. " Miyuki looked perfect in a J. Mendel dress and Monolo Blahnik shoes. The event was flawlessly organized by Current Affairs with live music by Ian O'Sullivan.

I've already written about what a treat it was to photograph this beautiful family, but I am excited to share more from their destination wedding on Oahu's North Shore. I feel grateful that I got to be a part of such a special and intimate occasion with these two and their adorable baby boy. Heather and Matt did it right! Heather looked beautiful in her Grace Loves Lace dress (brides: check out their site!) and Kahu Pomaika‘i ordained a lovely non-denominational Hawaiian ceremony right on Kawela Bay. It was a dreamy event full of Aloha.

Oh. My. Goodness. I just arrived home from my travels to this beautiful wedding where I photographed Matt and (baby Selby) Heather's elopement at Kawela Bay on the North Shore of Oahu. I know wedding photographers are always taking about all the love .. but this was pretty inspiring. I rushed home to hug and kiss my people a little extra after being around these three. Pretty amazing little family. I was so lucky to be a part of this totally perfect ceremony. The entire family was so calm and peaceful, they even helped me relax my wedding jitters, and I really loved Heather's understated whimsical style. I wish Heather, Matt and Selby a bright and beautiful future together full of aloha.

I don't  know where to start about how sweet and genuine these two are (and beautiful!). I am so happy Kristi and Garrett found each other and invited me to be a part of such a special day. They decided to have a destination wedding on the Big Island after visiting the chapel at the Kona Sheraton and falling in love with the setting. Their ceremony and reception was dripping with love and emotion on a day with record high surf. Congratulations to you two!

Recent photos from this absolutely stunning couple. I am looking forward to sharing more of this beautiful Hawaii wedding. Kristi and Garrett were married at the Sheraton Kona Resort at Keauhou Bay here on the Big Island.

Aloha! We're here in Hawai'i and we're ready. We are getting installed in this new (sort of?) place for us and trying to enjoy the process (hard!). Starting in a new place is challenging in so many ways but we are feeling really positive and have already met lots of great people. Needless to say, I would love to talk to you about your wedding photography on the Big Island of Hawai'i. Get in touch at info(at)bikinibirdie.com. I also love to shoot happy families and drooling babies. I'll see you in the summer, España.

These three are super special, super talented, super friends. We did some photos of them for for an upcoming creative project. Pretty much the most un-Hawaiian looking photos ever. Long pants? Graffiti? Are we really in Kona?
